Since we launched our new Seal of Approval program in late 2012, we have been thrilled to see the interest from home builders growing, and the applications for approval have started rolling in. As we continue to streamline our approval process, we thought this would be a great time to communicate just how easy the approval process is.
It is important to note that the easiest way to get a Livable Design Seal of Approval for a floor plan is to start working with us in the early design stages. It is far more efficient to design the features into the plan from the start than to have to modify an existing plan later.
To gain the Seal of Approval, the home must include all features from the core criteria. In addition to the core list, the home must also be designed with elements from the “Builder’s Choice” categories. There are three levels of approval: The Seal of Approval is the first tier, with Gold or Platinum approval levels available for plans with additional features selected.

Step 1 – The Application
Completing the application is the first step in the process. The application lets us know where the project is, how many homes are being built and who is on the project team.
Step 2 – The Checklist
The second step in the process is to complete the feature checklist. At this stage, the builder will indicate which Livable Design features theyare planning to incorporate into the floor plan. By initialing each item, the builder affirms that this feature will be built into the home.
Step 3 – Document Submittal
Submission of documents for Livable Design review is the third step in the process. Any documentation needed to verify that the home meets the Livable Design standard should be submitted including construction documents, specifications, and construction photos. If the documents submitted do not provide verification that the criteria have been met, we may request additional information. Site inspections may also occur during this time.
Once the review process has been completed, all the core criteria and minimum number of builder’s choice options have been incorporated and verified, the home is given the Seal of Approval! At this point, Livable Design will issue a certificate and offer marketing support and materials to help the builder promote their Livable Design homes.
